The cliffs stretch for almost 14-kilometres (8 miles) along the coast of Co Clare, from Doolin to just north of Kilrush. They reach heights of up to 700 feet above sea level at O’Brien’s Tower – which was once home to a lighthouse.
The Cliffs of Moher is a popular visitor attraction, situated at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in County Clare. It was voted one of Europe’s leading visitor attractions in 2010 and provides spectacular views out to sea. They’re famous for their wildflowers in summer, which are best seen from the viewing points at O’Brien’s Tower and Doolin Rock. In addition to this, there is a great selection of shops, cafes and restaurants on site.
Enjoy locally sourced gourmet food from one of the cafes or order a scrumptious picnic to enjoy while taking in the views. Picnic tables are dotted around the site and picnic blankets are available on request.
If you want to enjoy some retail therapy, there are a number of craft shops along the promenade outside the visitor centre, as well as the craft and gift store offering a wide range of goods that are produced locally.
It’s also worth taking the time to view the activity of the 30,000 pairs of seabirds that nest at the cliffs during breeding season, if you’re lucky enough to be here at that time. Binoculars are available to borrow from the customer service desk.
